My one real foray into public activism was in the 1990’s. I was a very active member of the committee in my suburb to stop the authorities from reducing the deer population through culling. It led to the defeat of the mayor in our town; although the elections were formally non-partisan, the mayor (who supported culling) was a D and replaced by an R, who opposed culling, primarily because he opposed anything the mayor supported. OTOH, this was when the GOP was still sane and he was actually a good mayor.
