re: #128 Hecuba’s daughter

Blue collar workers in their 40’s and 50’s didn’t want to hear that they had to train for a new career; Trump promised them that he could perform miracles and they wanted to believe. Yes — a lot of his voters were racist (certainly most of the ones I knew, but they were not blue collar) but there were others who saw no way to recover their lives.

They also didn’t (and still don’t) want to hear that those manufacturing jobs aren’t coming back. In part because manufacturing has become a smaller and smaller part of our economy and in part because of automation. It’s one of the things that confused me about the debates this week - everyone kept talking about bringing jobs back and creating more manufacturing jobs, and I kept wondering who is going to work those jobs when we have such low unemployment and a service based economy. It just seems detached from reality.
