What about bioplastics? Isn’t that a renewable (not necessarily carbon neutral) source of these products that can sooner (rather than later) replace fossil fuels?

Possibly, but I dont think the problem is really acquiring oil for plastics, it’s that we produce a lot of disposable stuff and we don’t properly handle that.
