re: #119 Liberal Classic

I was initially excited about the bailout protests. I viewed them as ordinary people like me who wanted to express their frustration with the direction the government was taking. For Neo-nazis to use the momentum generated by the bailout protests to advance their agenda fills me with great anger and sadness. Because when the concepts of free enterprise and limited government become synonymous with racism and antisemitism, it all but guarantees a generation of dominance of the American political landscape by the authoritarian far-left.

I’m a pro-science, pro-defense libertarian. I can’t stomach the Democrats because they are too socialist, the Republicans have managed to abandon fiscal conservatism in favor of social conservatism, and the man most closely associated with libertarianism is an anti-Israel creationist. I am honestly at a total loss. I don’t know which way to turn.

I don’t know, I don’t think us Democrats are as socialist as you think. I’m going to guess most Democrats reluctently supported the bailouts thinking that, but for the bailouts, the economy was going down the tubes. Last time I checked, hairy hippies and women studies professors weren’t exactly thinking that their life-long dreams came true - corporate welfare for AIG, etc… . To be sure, prior to this past year, I bet the average person, Democrat or Republican had not previously had the word “bailout” in his vocabulary. Whether the bailouts are good or bad, I don’t see my neighbors rejoicing.
