My personal theory is that most of that anti-Muslim demagoguery (at least in the US at this time) is a deeply evil and cynical ploy to throw more fuel onto the hate-Obama fire - if you saw the #thingsThatEnrageRepublicans tag, one of the dribbling wingnuts who trolled it spewed forth a slew of epithets against the president, “Muslim” being one. Talentless hack Hank Williams Jr. did the same thing. Hate Obama, hate anything connected to him, no matter how tenuous that connection may be. And if innocent people are harmed in the process, eh, who cares? realpolitik to protect the Koch Brothers’ tax breaks.
