Why is it so hard for some people to realize that the Democrats and Republicans flipped their positions on civil rights in the 1950s, and the racists stayed with the GOP, even though the GOP was the Party of Lincoln? 100+ years of history intervene and reshape the political parties.

The modern GOP is nothing like the Party of Lincoln, or even the Party of Eisenhower.
