Nixon was familiar with the levers of power, how to use them, and was a political manipulator. He also understood that politics was the art of a deal, and that a deal where everyone got something was better than no deal - and that you’d need partners across the aisle to get things done.

The GOP has abandoned that approach to go for scorched earth tactics.

The GOP has also abandoned any semblance of rational thought and are now a white nationalist party behind Trump. They have no redeeming features left.
