In keeping with stuff I keep repeating on here: the op-ed piece is a representation of how we’ve got a political/cultural group for whom most Americans don’t count. It’s a piece filled with self-justification, but it’s underlying premise is that this implicit, obfuscated system in which a cabal checks and diverts an unfit executive is a perfectly acceptable system because it achieves partisan objectives.

Really think about it.

Underneath the fear and sanctimony is a calculation that is fundamentally opposed to democracy and the principles of this republic. But this shouldn’t be shocking, since it’s completely in line with previous manifestations of contempt for democracy and equal franchise.

It’s also a great representation of why the problem extends beyond Trumpism: US “conservatism” has as its base premise that it cannot be failed and that all critique is actually bias or stupidity. This opinion piece reflects that: says the writer, we are protecting you from misrule, but also exploiting misrule to achieve our objectives.
