This is an excellent example of how culture can make a big difference. In your examples, guns are being treated as the weapons/tools that they are.

Very true. For me, a firearm is a tool/weapon, and it is to be treated appropriately. It’s not a visible substitute or extension for my manhood.
And I’ve never seen anyone here treat in that fashion. A friend of mine, Eva, she owns a shotgun for bird hunting and she’s very responsible with it. Her boyfriend owns a shotgun as well, and I’ve gone pheasant hunting with both of them. No problems, they never acted stupid with the guns, or anything.

The firearms owners I’ve encountered here are “responsible” by any definition.
