Even if the hospital caves, though, and your wife is allowed to collect UI, it shouldn’t end there. She should be able to get her job back (if she wants it), she should also get a settlement of some type, depending on the situation. That’s futuristic, so no need to speculate right now, just see how things develop.

I was fired from a well-paying job which I had held for 5 yrs (I was 53 at the time). A young punk atty who had only been with the firm about 2 yrs accused me of “doctoring” a transcription of a case that screwed up his litigation. I was called into a roomful of lawyers (all male) and totally humiliated over something that no evidence was produced for. It was a fucking kangaroo court. I left the office, very upset, thinking I could use some sick time, and was called at home by one of the partners who told me, “We accept your resignation”. I didn’t resign, BTW. So, I immediately went to the EEOC and spilled my guts about how women (all of them non-lawyers) in the firm were treated, i.e, sexually harrassed, the level of racism in the office (the sr partner said he would never hire a Black person), well, I just spilled my guts. I finally got my UI, and a $5K settlement (which went for back mortgage payments and other bills), but the fix was in—I was blackballed in the legal community and never was able to recoup my salary range after that. It was the beginning of the end and I wound up losing my house anyway and had to finally move in with my son up here.

Yep, seen cases like that before. She lost a job due to age discrimination a couple of years ago but got too depressed to be willing to do anything about it. Thankfully that’s not the case this time.

The biggest immediate danger is not the UI but if they try to cove their asses by going after her RN license.
