We put up our wipers here in the High Plains as well, partly for the snow and mostly so they are not frozen to the windscreen. Y’all are getting the blizzard that pounded the Dakotas a few days ago (and gave us about six inches of snow)—stay warm and keep your Subaru and bag of chips off the roads.

There was an article about this in the Concord Monitor the other day, now that I think about it. The debate is over exactly what you say: wearing the rubber by picking up the wipers that are fully or partially frozen to the window versus stretching out the spring in the arm mechanism (which dealerships, when interviewed, warned about).
