re: #152 Unshaken Defiance

Obviously I’m not in the repeal camp. One, when you look at what it takes to do that, a convention, well right not gonna happen. The writer in the NY Times makes a terribly weak argument comparing removing the 2nd A and ensuring legal gay marriage. Removing is not fairly comparable to adding to ones rights.

More importantly, the necessity is actually not there. The 2nd has not stood in the way of reasonable regulations like California and has not stopped some that can easily be argued as unreasonable.

The top level solution is enact California laws like b/g checks, limited capacity, limited caliber, limited purchases, following up on 1st time felons that own guns. All of these have held up.

Apologies for a way late reply.

It does not take a convention to pass a constitutional amendment. In fact, all amendments to date have taken the other path of going through Congress and then to the states for ratification.

The main reason I’m for repealing the second amendment is best explained by analogy: If an anthropologist encounters a bizarre tribe whose members masturbate themselves to death in front of their idol as human sacrifices are performed to it, the natural reaction is to take away their idol and then try to fix things up from there.

Thus with US gun nuts and the second amendment.
