Yes, and there were many things that were accepted back then that are not acceptable now. We need to be able to look at them in that light.

We not only need to see that but we need to see that as a good thing. Yeah, it’s a good thing you can’t call a black man “boy” anymore. Just as it’s a good thing that a black man shouldn’t have to fear reprisal if he doesn’t address white men and women as sir and ma’am. Now if you want to call everyone sir and ma’am, that’s fine but the shit black men especially had to fear if they so much as addressed white people the wrong way is something that I’m glad has disappeared from our culture. We also need to acknowledge as white people that the ending of slavery was unfortunately not the end of struggle by a lon gshot.
