I don’t believe for a sec that this is something that was unearthed just today. I agree with a sentiment downstairs that the VA GOP knew about these yearbook entries but kept them under their hat because their chosen nominee was a neo-Confederate and they didn’t really want to get into that discussion. Which is why the timing of this release, the day after he got raked over the coals by the wingnut media for endorsing the abortion bill, makes more sense than someone just happening to crack open their old yearbook and stumbling upon these pictures.

IMO, if someone acted in a truly deplorable way 35 years ago but (assuming they committed no crime) has behaved in an exemplary fashion in the intervening years AND sincerely apologizes for their earlier behavior AND nothing in their current behavior suggests that they retain their earlier views, they should be given a second chance.
