re: #141 Love-Child of Cassandra and Sisyphus

The flu will probably still kill more people.

The death toll is relatively high ( a few percent of the reported cases of infection) in China, but how much of that is due to poor access to proper treatment?

Even more important, how many unreported cases aren’t in those numbers, especially in China? It’s been reported that the disease is often no more serious than a cold, and mistaken for that.

Also, look at the Diamond Princess numbers, where they’re much more likely to have captured all or almost all cases: 634 cases, 27 serious/critical, 2 deaths. (The “non-serious” cases aren’t getting exceptional treatments, there are no treatments. They’re just going into this in “first-world” health. And the crew, going into it with youth, aren’t getting it at all, it seems. So far.)

At this point, I’m not managing to feel personally threatened by this. (We should be worrying about populations that don’t have access to good medical care.)
