On the other hand we’ve had sanctions against doing business with Iran since 1979. They’re not absolute sanctions but instead constrain certain industries and put caps on the total amount that can be invested.

Romney’s investment skirted but apparently did not cross those sanction lines. He obeyed the letter of the law.

Unfortunately for him, the spirit also matters to the public opinion.
