I don’t engage them. I say, “Look, I love you, I respect you, but we don’t agree. So let’s agree to disagree and leave politics out of our friendship. Don’t want to talk about it any more.”

Then talk about something else. If they bring it up again, “We agreed this is off limits.”

If they cannot respect your boundaries you have a bigger issue. You’re not asking them to kill a kitten, you’re simply saying, “I don’t want to talk politics.”

My best friend and I have agreed we will discuss POLICY but not POLITICS. I will discuss abortion law or foreign policy or other things. I will not discuss Hillary Clinton. Works for us.
