In auto racing, there are other replacements like 3M’s AFFF, but they are foam based and have some liquid content to help produce the soapy foam. Which of course is not good for electronics.

I think it’s only allowed in sealed rooms that are not routinely occupied. Hence the alarm/signal strobe outside the door. Since we (my shop) have equipment in the same closet/small room, we have been instructed to hold our breath and leave the area immediately if the bottle is ever dumped.
