Asthma group warns against inhaling hydrogen peroxide to treat COVID-19 (The Hill, September 22, 2021)

I suppose there’s some advantage in bleach-blonde nose hairs?

An asthma organization warned against participating in a social media trend that suggests people can treat or prevent COVID-19 by inhaling hydrogen peroxide through a nebulizer.

The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) said the trend was “concerning and dangerous,” according to a blog post on its website.

“DO NOT put hydrogen peroxide into your nebulizer and breathe it in,” the AAFA’s blog said. “This is dangerous!”

This is one of many at-home COVID-19 treatments that medical experts have attempted to debunk amid online misinformation spread during the pandemic, The Washington Post noted.

Hydrogen peroxide, which can be poisonous for humans, is often used to prevent infection from minor cuts, burns and scrapes, The Post said. It does not treat or prevent COVID-19, according to the AAFA.

“Only use asthma medicine prescribed by your doctor in your nebulizer. Other chemicals can be harmful to your lungs,” the AAFA added.
