The EF 400 2.8 is supposed to be one of the finest lenses ever made.

As for quality… yeah, Nikon’s reliance on Sony in the early years really slowed them down, especially as Canon was able to make sensors in-house and knew they could work on CMOS and be a couple of years ahead of their competition.

I think finally the small format camera market has returned to the old model, where systems (lenses etc.) are what differentiates vendors now.
