re: #113 Dr Lizardo
Obviously, “someone says it so it must be true” is idiocy, considering the nature of the human testimony. First of all we should ask for corroboration.
E.g. if there are two statements rather than one, they corroborate each other - 2 statements is something qualitatively, not simply quantitatively, different from 1 statement. It’s not a guarantee (e.g. in the Mattress Girl case there were several statements that did not cumulatively add up to a credible case), but it’s something to work with. Further corroboration could come through checking the places and the dates (who was where at what moment), when the information first appeared (i.e. whether the accuser told anyone at the time), etc.
