Any number would probably be too many, but everything I’ve seen (and I live in purity pony land) suggests that the PP people are very few, and very loud.

And that’s exactly the reason why any number is too many. It’s not that they’re a majority in the party, it’s that they get all the media attention (“Democrats in disarray,” anyone?) and make the most noise.
