The thing I have to honestly ask of people who think the Dems have moved too far to the right on economics is what about when the New Deal was proposed and that the only way it could get passed Congress is FDR allowed Southern states to make it so only whites could benefit from the programs? What about FDR’s honest to God cowardice on lynching prohibition and his signing of the EO that interned the Japanese? I like FDR as a president but I don’t deify him either. And if you think Obama/Clinton are too hawkish. FDR was quite hawkish too. So many progressives especially my fellow white male ones don’t want accept that Democratic Party is in fact more progressive than ever. And yeah it sort of stinks that corporate money is taken but we are in a post Citizens United world and tbh some of these corporations do share our exclusionary goals for American society. Not every corp is Standard Oil.

Whether or not you believe FDR intended to provoke war, he still accomplished such by pushing Japan into a corner through cutting off access to US oil and scrap steel. If he had done neither, we still would have eventually been forced to confront Japan as they moved in on the holdings of our allies. But they would not have felt so desperate as to launch a surprise attack on us.
