A Powerful New Song From Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit: "White Man's World"

Morning, Lizards:

I don’t usually feel prompted to go off on rants about “Teh Suck Media”, tbh, I think the “MSM” does a reasonably credible job when it comes to “straight” news (political slants are an entirely different matter) - but when I saw the headline in today’s NYT on my doorstep (“2 Attacks in London As A Reeling Nation Faces More Terror”) - I went off to go check British media online, then some domestic sources, and THEN I got pissed.
Not that I’m an expert, but one thing I know from knowing the smattering of English and Scottish friends I have, is that Brits do NOT “reel” easily or readily, even in really bad circumstances: and things like the London Bridge attacks, horrible as they are, may upset, disgust, grieve or anger most of the population: but the main response (and I’m trying to filter for possible media biases here) over there, as we saw with the Manchester bombing, seem to be way less “reeling”, and more of a firm determination NOT to let their lives be ruled by fear, to carry on more-or-less normally as the best way to give a big “F—YOU” to terrorists (not that they’re ignoring it, just not letting it run them).
And also: (again, possible media bias); one major difference over how terrorism incidents are being reported and reacted to over there, is that the reflexive Muslim-bashing that these attacks always seem to call forth from US commentariats is either absent, or muted, or left to “underground” media. In the wake of the Manchester and London Bridge attacks, most of the calls to “deport them all” seem to emanate mainly from this side of the Atlantic.
Britain (being populated by humans) is, of course, far from a Ideal Utopia, but the way they avoid freakouts over terror attacks like this is, IMO, way better than the way we do: which seems to be mostly pants-wetting panic larded with violent xenophobia.
Why can’t we at least TRY to do better?
