I have to disagree here. There’s absolutely nothing anyone can do to deflate a right wing claim — these claims exist in an alternate universe that simply has nothing to do with facts or reality, and I don’t think this is a good reason for Franken to resign. It won’t make any difference in how the right attacks Democrats.

This is one of the really frustrating things about behaving with a sense of ethics and morality — Republicans simply don’t care about your ethics or how you behave, and react exactly the same way in any case.

Not arguing that we SHOULDN’T hold our people to a higher standard. Just saying we shouldn’t ever expect it to have any effect on right wingers, because it’s irrelevant to them.

Exactly. Like I said before, if he resigns, it has to be off the merit and seriousness of the accusations against him, not to preemptively cut off an attack on the party that the resignation won’t actually abate, ever.
