Biostatistics is not for wimps.

If the case had been in Shasta County rather than Solano County, I would have picked out a certain church in Redding as the originating point. But, I’d be asking if the sick person goes to church and where. I am not saying the sick person is a member of the Korean Shincheonji. I am saying that if they go to a big church, the chances of being around someone else who had been sick or out of the country is higher.

On the Japan front, the Minister of Sports has hinted broadly to the Sumo Association that it ought to change the Osaka basho (which begins Sunday, March 8). The options are: holding the matches without spectators and showing them on NHK, postponing the matches or cancelling altogether. You will notice that “hold the matches with no changes” is NOT among the options presented. The Sumo Association meets on Sunday to discuss what it is going to do. I’d note that the Sumo Association is even more sclerotic (rigid, unresponsive) than the Japanese government, so I could see these old guys (they’re all guys) not taking the hint and throwing caution to the wind.
