I get that, I’m just wondering why we would need something like workers compensation for on the job injuries if we’ve got a single payer system? And likewise, is there a need for non-health insurance policies to provide coverage for medical costs if, again, we’ve got a single payer system that, at least in theory, is going to cover those costs? (I can imagine a system where some form of those thing exist to cover damage due to missed work/income and/or pain and suffering, but speaking from experience, the vast majority of damages in personal injury cases is almost always medical costs)

A lot of Workmens’ Comp is not for medical care, though—things like the calculated number of months pay for a “scheduled award” when your dick is caught in a lathe. That and dying, of course.
