There is the theory I’ve seen on some parts of the nut-o-sphere that Puritans are the intellectual ancestors of modern liberals and progressives. Which _might_ be true at some level (ideologies can change unrecognizeably in a few hundred years), but not much more than “Democrats love Slavery” that you also see spouted by the nut-rights.

In my time as an American liberal, I have been told that I am the heir of the Nazis but yet someohw my support of diversity in my country means I’m destroying our “heritage.” I wish these morons could pick out what the hell we are. Meanwhile many a conservative would be wise to learn about how conservatives responded to Mussolini.
