Which, of course, is utter horseshit. Panetta and Dempsey both laid it out, there was no help coming because the closest military assets were hours away. There’s nothing Obama could have ordered that would have made a damned bit of difference before everything was over. There is no magic “Retaliate” button on the president’s desk that, when pushed, materializes entire battalions of troops wherever needed around the globe.

And even with that, any help sent had to be strong enough to actually do some good? Sending two squads by helicopter would have been an invitation to catastrophe.
