I’d ask him why Strom Thurmond, Jesse Helms, and countless others switched to the Republican Party and why the South readily accepted Barry Goldwater in 1964 against a native son. It couldn’t possibly be that LBJ signed the Civil Rigths Act of 1964 and Goldwater voted against it. Seriously, I’m fine with Republicans taking pride in their party’s past on civil rights but acting like the dixiecrats who opposed civil rights were liberals simply because they were democrats and ignoring the fact that many of them did in fact become Republicans is revisionist horse shit.
