That would also have the side benefit of having lots of lower courts with judges with lower court experience to chose from whenever there’s a Supreme Court nomination, and far fewer of the ideological nominees with the approval of the Federalist Society.

I don’t know how to break this to the Trump supporters, but lifetime tenure goes away for a judge if the court he/she is in goes away. Do not be at all surprised if a Democratic president simply, systematically, abolishes one court system at a time and has a majority senate simply restock with people Democrats want. We aren’t going to sacrifice two generations on some kind of suicide contract with constitutional niceties. There’s nothing, at least that I know of, stating that appelate courts, lower courts, are inviolable. There is dissolution. There is also court packing.

No way is a Democrat going to abolish a court. Not going to happen. It’s possible that some of the appointments could be impeached if they engage in inappropriate conduct but that would be very few.

Supreme Court nominees don’t have to be judges. In any case, a Democratic president will not appoint anyone who receives the blessing of the Federalist Society; Democratic nominees for judicial positions are blessed by the ABA, not a group of reactionary fanatics who masquerade as a legitimate legal organization.
