Clouds cleared just enough so the camera on top of the long ridge to the southeast can show what is going on.

The eruption is ongoing but the lava never fills the crater, instead gushing out near the base, filling lava tubes, running downhill to form a large lake on the west side of Geldingadalir valley. In said lake there is a point that becomes a fountain:

Unfortunately there are no closer cameras that live stream.

That’s a huge pool of hot lava over there but the rain has cooled the top enough to form a skin.

It’s not customary for us puny humans to think in these terms, but this is just a tiny example of what has happened continually on this planet. There are places in the US where one can go and see hundreds to thousands of feet of basalt stacked up from eruptions. Some of these eruptions happened after the first peoples to inhabit this continent and they would have seen them (see Idaho, for example of recent large lava flows.)
