I congratulate the SEALS for carrying out the order to shoot if the Capt. was in danger. I think a better order would have been “Save the Captain, and take maybe a prisoner or two for interrogation.”
Congratulate Obama if you must, but I think he gave a weasel order.
It sounds to me like the rules of engagement the sailors and Marines were operating under were the same rules of engagement a SWAT team operates under in a hostage situation. It makes perfect sense if the underlying philosophy is that this was a law enforcement situation, as opposed to a military engagement.
I don’t know: was this a law enforcement situation or a military engagement?
