I just think shit that happened a long time ago should generally be left there unless it shows some severe mental aberration. It wasn’t news that Bush was a spoiled, privileged dude who had stuff handed to him throughout his life, except for those who had a vested interest in ignoring that and would have also ignored any story about his guard service.

The real issue is that he avoided Vietnam. The mechanics of how that privileged worked out is not really important. It happened because he was privileged and chose not to go, Kerry was privileged and chose to go. That’s the important bit.

I see what you’re saying, and agree, but the bit that nags me is that he couldn’t even fake adequately the excuse of privilege he chose to use.
