When Mr. w was a kid, they had a fridge that took quarters. If you didn’t put enough quarters in, it didn’t stay cold. That’s how they paid the department store for it. Once it was paid for, other things could be put on the fridge plan. That was ‘revolving credit’ for them.

My mother’s husband bought a TV that way around 1952 (rather round B&W screen, 4 channels.
