You can’t get everything right. The film got more right than it didn’t and I’m sure many of the same types of people who complain about that are the same who think Braveheart is one of the most historical epics ever. All the Scots I’ve ever talked to can’t stand it because they feel it makes a mockery of their country’s struggle for independence. It’s an entertaining movie but I would never say “Hey Braveheart’s how 14th century Scotland really was!”

I remember a job going around back in 2000, during the period before Bush v Gore put the kibosh on the recount, that the British were going to consider the whole Independence business a wash and take us back as a colony.

One of the terms for being reintroduced into the UK was Mel Gibson being arrested for starring in Braveheart and The Patriot.
