When EDS was acquired by GM and began systematically poaching every IT operation in Metro Detroit in order to fix GM’s sprawling IT empire, there was a macabre joke we shared in IT:

One of his more memorable quotes: “When an EDS’er sees a snake, he KILLS it. At GM the first thing they do is form a committee on snakes. Then they hire the foremost expert on snakes. Then they spend the next 6 months figuring out what they do about the snake.”

I went to work at EDS the same year it was acquired by GM. There were a bunch of GM IT professionals who were so pissed off that they actually started a movement to join the UAW but union wasn’t equipped to deal with an influx of salaried professionals who made more than the line workers.
