When it comes to Kavanaugh reminds me of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice Orie who was convicted of bribery and sentenced to jail. She refused to resign from the bench and the Republican controlled legislature refused to impeach and remove her so the seat stayed vacant until her term expired and a Democrat was elected to replace her.

I can conceive of Kavanaugh going the same route, indicted, convicted, sent to jail, Nancy passes the impeachment resolution in the house and Republicans voting Not Guilty in lockstep to keep the seat vacant.

This is why the Democrats have NO choice but to expand the size of the court from 9 to at least 15 in 2021.
