This the one thing I do not understand regarding the vaccine. Both Pfizer and Moderna are vaccines that are genetic code based. There is no dead or live virus in them. That actually makes them safer than a vaccine that has a bit of the virus in it like J & J. Are these folks so afraid of new technology that they are willing to die of the virus?

No. It’s political theater.

If another pandemic disease or similar made an outbreak it’s 50/50* that the GOP and associated nuts will accept a vaccine for it without complaint whether it was a typical one or RNA/DNA based.

Trump and the Republicans made a political calculation that keeping the economy running full-out and poo-poo-ing the virus and how to properly react to it outweighed the potential political cost of doing any sort of effective lock-down. There would still be anti-vaccine and anti-mask nuts, but they wouldn’t have the majority of the media and one of the political parties backing them to the hilt.

* - I say 50/50 since the GOP may well have poisoned the well badly enough regarding government led public health measures that they feel they do have to resist any vaccine for any disease from now on.
