My prediction:

Soon, considering the power of the unions over the Democrats and the GM debacle, the US will place massive tarrifs and taxes on all foreign cars essentially making it cost prohibitive to by anything but their overpriced, shoddily made government warrantied cars.

This is the next and natural step.
