I saw the Boomtown Rats play at the legendary Jay’s Longhorn Saloon in Minneapolis. For a final encore, just Bob Geldof and the keyboard player came out to play this song that they’d just written that the whole band really didn’t know yet. The whole set was great.

Arg! You lucky so and so. I LOVED that band in high school. They were touring at one point opening for Gary Neuman (of “Cars”) and my best friend and I got tickets. Got there, laughed my ass off at my very faithful Lutheran friend try to avoid the shared toke from the gay couple next to us & then found out in shock that the Rat’s weren’t there because the night before their guitarist Garry Roberts (IIRC) had cut his hand badly and couldn’t play. They had “Solitary Dot” play instead & then Neuman. The openers were, well, not good and I had never heard of them before or again after. Neuman was just anther synth band. All in all a disappointing night.
