Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo) proposed a bill to ban so-called “loot boxes” in video games, that is, spending real cash within the game, saying they both prey on “user addiction” and children.

Other countries have already banned the practice (Belgium), restricted them (China), or are studying the issue (Sweden). Belgium’s government banned them as a violation of gaming laws.
