Joe Biden declared in a debate that he would nominate woman as VP. Did he paint himself into corner? If he had not done so, he would have a wide range of potential candidates to chose from, and could still have nominated a woman, but now his hands are forced.

this implies that, before searching, the best possible choice overall has to be a man

that by eliminating all the men and choosing the best woman still leaves us with less than whoever the best man would be
