CEP (Circular Error Probability) is too large in that scenario, we’d have stray bombs falling on civilian areas doing that (and quite possibly killing the Free Syrian Army men we’d want to support). Better to send B-1s, armed with smart bombs that offer far better hit probabilities.

You have a point, but in Gulf 1, the contrails of the B-52’s were often enough to cause surrenders by Iraqi forces. Especially on sortie 2+ … The psychological reasons are often more powerful than the actual bombs.
