As if dudebros weren’t enough, some lefty shitheads on twitter now say the new Ghostbusters is … racist.

I think it boils down to this argument. In original Ghostbusters, Zeddmore was looking for work and hired. He wasn’t a scientist, but a guy willing to work with the scientists.

In the new movie, the black woman isn’t a scientist, but rather an MTA worker who is willing to work with the 3 white women scientists.

What I think is going on is that the director simply cribbed the structure of the original and sought to keep some kind of continuity. Would it have been nice if one of the scientists was the black woman? Absolutely. Heck, since this is a teaser trailer, we might not know the back story or that this woman went to college and is now getting to use her skills. Or not.

I just can’t get bent out of shape over it. But I don’t see the point of doing what’s essentially either a remake/reimagining or a “sequel” to a movie that is as beloved as Ghostbusters. It’s a setup for disappointment frankly.
