re: #170 BeachDem

Lucky (?) for you, you’re not old enough to remember when single women couldn’t get birth control; and when the only way most women could get abortions was to meet an abortion doctor on a street corner, cash in hand, and go to some undisclosed location in the dead of night. And that’s if they could afford to—the others had to go the self-induced route—and the coat-hanger isn’t just a dramatic image—it was really the instrument of choice in many desperate cases.

Sadly, there’s even a few generations of women who don’t remember those times—which is why they’re not up in arms about this bullshit.

I know many in your generation think we’re “old crones,” but we’ve been to this movie before and we know how it ends. (I’m not picking on you, HappyWarrior—I know your heart is in the right place—but this anti-abortion shit really freaks me out)

One of my favorite novels, Revolutionary Road ends with a self-induced abortion. It’s obviously set in a time long before my time. I think what allows me to appreciate the concerns of the older generation is being a student of history so I’m not offended at all and in fact I would agree with you very much on that which is why so many younger people sad to say even younger women dismiss legitimate concerns. Anyhow the “old crones” remark I made earlier was more to the older wingnuts who constantly whine about the younger generation when it comes to things like “PC” and all that.
