Terms used that you rarely hear anymore. Rheumy eyes or rheumy. Pleurisy. Gout. POLIO. FUCKING POLIO. Rampant hepatitis. Ring worm, pin worm, round worm. Scabies. Crotch critters and head lice.
I remember houses being quarantined and “nit” combs. Tar based shampoos, with kero cleansers.
“How do you get rid of crabs?” Shave half your hair off. Set the remaining hair on fire. When they run to save themselves kill them with an icepick.”
Famous last words; “This stuff still good?”
Orange Army Surplus American cheese in 5 pound tins. It never dies. Aqua Net as a roach killer.
Whiskey was good for you. Especially in the morning. It killed whatever came after for a few hours.

My wife’s mother was paralylised after polio but died an early death after spending the rest of her life in a wheelchair. My mother contracted polio but recovered (though she has post-polio syndrome now).

After I contracted TB in Tunisia, I have had pleurisy twice, both times requiring hospitalisation. Fortunately I had military medical care (socialised medicine) to take care of the TB (I was quarantined) and the later cases of pluerisy.
