re: #135 Dr Lizardo

That’s the biggest thing right there. Hitler was just as lazy as Trump, quite frankly - even in the cauldron of WW2, he was still living like some Bohemian artist.

On D-Day, the reason German forces didn’t deploy their available armor in the Normandy area (not that there was a huge amount of it) was because Hitler was asleep until about 10 A.M…….and no one dared to wake him up. That right there is flagrant irresponsibility from all involved.

Heh. Re-fighting wars is always fun…
AFAIK, military historians have generally agreed with the assessment that the Germans’ problem with countering the Normandy invasion wasn’t so much that they didn’t deploy their armored units, but that they were deployed, for the most part, in the wrong places. Mainly because 1) Hitler assumed that Rommel ( to whom he had assigned the “Atlantic Wall” defenses) knew what he was about; and 2) they failed to adequately see through Allied deceptions about where the actual Overlord invasion sites would be. But of course, Hitler’s late-rising habits (drug consumption notwithstanding) didn’t help much.

It’s interesting, though that recent research has uncovered a good deal of info about how much the Germans relied on “performance-enhancing” pharmaceuticals during WWII: I wonder if Allied forces were speeded up as much?
