I don’t have a particular problem with comparative religion being taught in high school, other than the likely controversy it would cause with a lot of parents and the fact it is a difficult field to present neutrally. (I guarantee you wingnut high school teachers wouldn’t present it fairly; Kentucky has been taken to court a couple times over their recent law with teachers proselytising to students and using materials taken from Christian apologetics sites, requiring students to memorise Bible verses, &c.)

The bill proposed in North Dakota (and the current law in Kentucky) allows students to substitute social studies classes with Bible study. Such laws in practice subvert actual education standards.

Hasn’t that been challenged in court? Or is it because it’s not required that it has escaped judicial review? With this Supreme Court, who knows what the ruling would be.
