If someone took the idea and set the film in the mid-to-late 1970s, it might actually work pretty well. You could do it as an affectionate parody/homage to the original series and its era.

Had a bunch of disastrous jobs after grad school, including circulation shop of a small-town newspaper. One of our rural carriers was a student who carried off the current FFM style and look. She was so jacked up that the boss could only train her to find her route by leaving joints in the delivery tubes. They eventually shacked up and got fired.
